Afton Then and Now

The Afton Law office was built in 1984 and roughly resembles the old Afton Depot which was demolished in the early 1960's.  Located fifty feet from the center line of the CSX railroad, it adjoins the East Trailhead of the Crozet/Blue Ridge Tunnel which Nelson County is now reopening.  The tunnel was built primarily by Irish immigrant labor in the 1850's under the supervision of Claudius Crozet, one of the founders of the Virginia Military Institute.  The tunnel was considered then, and now, an engineering marvel, and at the time of its opening, at 4273 feet, was the longest tunnel in America.  When work is completed, visitors to the tunnel will be able to hike and bicycle its length to the West Trailhead which lies in Augusta County above Waynesboro on the western slope of the Blue Ridge.

Low-Cost Divorce, Separation, Real Estate, Wills, and Business Formation Legal Services

Attorney Bruce K. Tyler began practicing law in 1977 when he opened a basement office in his home in the mountain village of Afton, Virginia, just minutes away from the entrances to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Skyline Drive.

Although we always enjoy meeting our clients personally, there is no need to visit the office, unless depositions are necessary in a divorce case, or if you choose to sign your will, power of attorney and advance medical directive in our presence.  All of our legal services are rendered via email or regular USPS mail.

Bruce Tyler of Afton Law is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Virginia and received a Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction in European and Russian History in 1973.  He graduated from Rutgers School of Law in 1976, receiving a Juris Doctor degree, and returned to Virginia with his wife of 51 years, Lynn.  Bruce worked for a year as an annotation editor for The Michie Company, now Lexis-Nexis.  In 1977, Bruce hung out his shingle in Afton.  From the beginning, Bruce was determined to deliver routine legal services to Virginians at affordable prices.  That tradition continues in the following areas:

Bruce Tyler has opened well over 14,000 domestic relations files dealing with no-fault divorces and/or separation agreements.  He has formed numerous limited liability companies and corporations.  He has drafted countless wills, powers of attorneys and advance medical directives and now offers them together in a very affordable "Be Prepared" package.

Instructions on how to perform a will signing ceremony in the comfort of your own home are available.   All of our legal services are available to anyone living in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  In cases of divorce, our services are available to anyone in the United States if the defendant spouse has lived in Virginia for at least six months.

Since 1977, Bruce has closed over 8,500 real estate transactions, including both residential and commercial transactions, and charges only $500 for residential real estate closings in a limited, geographical area.
